The “Are You a Homeschooler?” Quiz

April 18, 2007

It is spring cleaning week at our house, and I thought I’d do some virtual cleaning, too. So from a folder where I stuff the “To blog about sometime” websites comes this quiz. It claims to determine whether you deserved your high school diploma — Ha! There is no way I could remember anything from that long ago.

So tell me, what did the quiz really measure?

You paid attention during 100% of high school!

85-100% You must be an autodidact, because American high schools don’t get scores that high! Good show, old chap!

Do you deserve your high school diploma?

I think it measured that I am a homeschooler on her fifth pass through the curriculum. One of my favorite things about homeschooling is the chance to relearn and finally understand the topics I hated when I was in school.

Fun quiz! I love learning along with my children. Recently, my son has been teaching me some things about World War II.

    Hi, Karen!

What is it about boys and WW II? My son is a history buff, too. I think it has a lot of the same attraction as a fantasy story: adventure, wicked villains, brave heroes, things that go “boom” in the night….

The quiz result comment was funny. And true! I, too, have enjoyed relearning, and filling in the gaps, while educating my children.

    Hi, Sherry!

I think I enjoy school quite a bit more than my kids do. If only every lesson were as delicious as your lesson on chocolate, I bet they would clamor for more.

This quiz was so much fun! I really didn’t think I’d too well on it, but I surprised myself!

It’s funny you all mention history- I hated it so much I managed to graduate high school without a single world history credit. And now I love it. Go figure!

I am almost the same way, Lauren. I wouldn’t quite say I love history now, but I certainly hated it then. I think having lived through a little of it makes it more interesting to me—or maybe I’m less self-centered now than I was as a teenager, so now I appreciate other people’s stories more?

I definitely think we appreciate it more as we get older, but as for me I think I hated it because I was bored silly with textbooks! Had someone given me a great historical novel, and then tried to connect the dots, I don’t think I would have avoided it for so long. For the longest time my dh couldn’t figure out how someone who hated world history knew so much about the French revolution- what can I say, I loved Les Miserables!
