Giveaway: Usborne Easy Recorder Tunes
Homeschoolers, have you heard about the Fall 2010 Curriculum Clean-Out? It’s a fun time to clear out a little of the clutter on your shelves — one gal’s clutter is another homeschool mom’s treasure!
I first saw the Clean-Out on love2learn2day, who is giving away a living math picture book. There are several other mathy giveaways listed at the main Curriculum Clean-Out Linky page. My house, however, is a black hole for math books: they come in, but they don’t go back out!
Therefore, I’m offering a copy of The Usborne Book of Easy Recorder Tunes. Somehow I ended up with two of these, so the one in better condition is now up for grabs.
How to Enter
Leave a comment telling me HOW YOU TEACH MATH in your homeschool. Do you use a curriculum (which one)? Do you prefer living books? Do you use online resources, or games, or just follow your child’s interest? Are you part of a math club? I’m curious to hear about your experiences!
The Clean-Out runs through August 28, so I’ll use Random.org to choose a comment as winner on the 29th and email you for your address. [U.S. shipping only!]

Math-U-See is working pretty well for us. Hope I win the recorder book … my dad is teaching my daughter to play the recorder and it’d be fun to have another book of tunes!
My little guy is only 3. We have just been using some manipulatives to practice counting 1 to 1. I loved math growing up so I want to go nice and slow and give him a good foundation to build on and learn to love math
We use Abeka. My kids also like playing math games on the internet.
so far we just use counting games, manipulatives, and different forms of dots pages.
I’m using Mastering Mathematics for our 1st and 4th graders, and our 7th grader is using Saxon.
We use Saxon math for older grades (54 and up) and some Critical Thinking Co books. For the youngers, we love a combo of Math Mammoth, math games, living books, and lots of manipulative play.
We use Saxon for our math. This school year we are using 3, 5/4, and Algebra 1. For my preschooler I use manipulatives. Thanks for the chance to win!
Lots of living math and supplement it with math-u-see

We’ve used several ‘dollar store’ workbooks over the past year with my preschoolers. Every couple days I pick a new ‘manipulative’ to help figure out the equations (markers, coins, marbles, etc). In a couple weeks we will be starting on Saxon 1.
Thanks so much for the giveaway!
I have a 1st grader, so we’re still working on basic workbooks I pick up wherever, as well as a printed up and laminated clock, and fractions with measuring cups and beans.

We will be using the Earlybird Kindergarten Series from Sigapore Math this year.

We would love to win this!
This is our first year…and we are following MFW K suggestions for Math. I will also add living books (found on the living math booklist http://livingmathbooklist.blogspot.com/) that corresponds with a new math concept he encounters. We will also supplement with a worksheet or two found on Enchanted Learning. My husband liked what MFW K suggested for Kinder math…but, before we decided to go with MFW we were leaning towards using Making Math Meaningful.
This is great! I was just talking yesterday about how the recorder was the first instrument I learned in school and that I should teach my daughter.
We use Rightstart Math and enjoy it. My daughter does well with their teaching style and ideas. We do supplement with living books and games.
We use a lot of manipulatives and living books and file folder games. We are planning on using Horizons math. Thank you for the chance to win.
We use Horizons math along with a lot of manipulatives. Thanks!
We use Math U See and a combination of fun math books from the library and items we find at used book sales.
Thanks,
Kim
We use Abeka math as a core curriculum, with support from Math-It and various downloaded worksheets.

I am using hooked on phonics math and some workbooks I picked up for k-3 math!
Katie
We use Singapore Math right now…
We use living math books and just using math in life. The kids seem to enjoy learning that way. I would love to win the recorder book. I bought my kiddos a couple over the summer and they love to play.

We use A Beka for math. Up until now, I haven’t used a curriculum, though. We’ve just done a lot of hands on activities. Thanks for the opportunity!
Thanks for the give away! My son isn’t three yet, so math right now involves concepts like patterning, learning to read double and triple digit numbers, etc. We haven’t used any curriculum yet. This week, he is learning the most math from playing countless games of monopoly!
Haha! My husband just unearthed his recorder from elementary school so how fun would this be?! As for math, we’re only at the preschool level. We’ve done a bit of Lesson Pathways (online curriculum) and some basic workbooks. I just bought RightStart so we may start using that soon.
We use Math U See and a lot of fun games. Thanks for this giveaway.

I love to teach math using games, it makes it more fun!!
We use Singapore math for my 5 year old son, and then we just use manipulatives for counting for my almost 2 year old girl.
We have always used Saxon math until this year. My daughter who’s in 4th grade just started using Teaching Textbooks. So far we LOVE it!! My boys are still using Saxon for grade 2.
We use Math-U-See & Horizon’s !
Thanks
Very cool! We have a recorder and would love this book! I found a Bob Jones K5 Math teacher’s manual for a quarter last year, so we are using it as our guide to which math topic to study when. Other then that, I use a mix of what I can find online & lots of manipulatives.
We teach math with objects – cubes, dice, stones, beads. Lots of adding and subtracting with items. I’d love to win this book, how fun!
I am just beginning to teach my 5 year old Math! My 10th grader uses ALEKS because I do not feel good about teaching Math. I am worried about teaching my little one–I am glad to find your blog. I started trying to do a lot of games and we are going to do Math-U-See. Please enter us for this! Thanks. quinnschilling@gmail.com
So far we have just be intentional while cooking, working, and daily living.
we are teaching our preschooler math in the kitchen at this point. whatever she wants to “catch” is fine right now.
she really wants to learn the recorder though! I have a recorder, you have the music! I can see a good relationship forming.
We have just started teaching him basic math right now as he is too young but this would be something I would want in the next 2-3 months.
I’d love to add this to our music curriculum! We have a recorder, but no books specifically for it…
Math: I just acquired Math U See for this year; we’ll see how it goes. I was going to do a Number Corner program (Bridges – mathlearningcenter.org) – but it seems like too much prep work for me at the moment…

I use a variety of things. We mainly use online printables and games!

We are using Singapore math but also supplement with games and books and some logic to get our brains working.
Wow! There are so many great ways to teach math, aren’t there? Thank you all for playing.
Choosing a number from 1-38, random.org gave me 13. The book goes to Maria of Dirt Under My Nails. Congratulations!
