Giveaway: Usborne Easy Recorder Tunes

August 23, 2010

Homeschoolers, have you heard about the Fall 2010 Curriculum Clean-Out? It’s a fun time to clear out a little of the clutter on your shelves — one gal’s clutter is another homeschool mom’s treasure!

I first saw the Clean-Out on love2learn2day, who is giving away a living math picture book. There are several other mathy giveaways listed at the main Curriculum Clean-Out Linky page. My house, however, is a black hole for math books: they come in, but they don’t go back out!

Therefore, I’m offering a copy of The Usborne Book of Easy Recorder Tunes. Somehow I ended up with two of these, so the one in better condition is now up for grabs.

How to Enter

Leave a comment telling me HOW YOU TEACH MATH in your homeschool. Do you use a curriculum (which one)? Do you prefer living books? Do you use online resources, or games, or just follow your child’s interest? Are you part of a math club? I’m curious to hear about your experiences!

The Clean-Out runs through August 28, so I’ll use Random.org to choose a comment as winner on the 29th and email you for your address. [U.S. shipping only!]

On my other blog, I’m offering a set of Dover Coloring Books.

Math-U-See is working pretty well for us. Hope I win the recorder book … my dad is teaching my daughter to play the recorder and it’d be fun to have another book of tunes!

My little guy is only 3. We have just been using some manipulatives to practice counting 1 to 1. I loved math growing up so I want to go nice and slow and give him a good foundation to build on and learn to love math :-)

We’ve used several ‘dollar store’ workbooks over the past year with my preschoolers. Every couple days I pick a new ‘manipulative’ to help figure out the equations (markers, coins, marbles, etc). In a couple weeks we will be starting on Saxon 1.
Thanks so much for the giveaway!

I have a 1st grader, so we’re still working on basic workbooks I pick up wherever, as well as a printed up and laminated clock, and fractions with measuring cups and beans.

We would love to win this!

This is our first year…and we are following MFW K suggestions for Math. I will also add living books (found on the living math booklist http://livingmathbooklist.blogspot.com/) that corresponds with a new math concept he encounters. We will also supplement with a worksheet or two found on Enchanted Learning. My husband liked what MFW K suggested for Kinder math…but, before we decided to go with MFW we were leaning towards using Making Math Meaningful.

This is great! I was just talking yesterday about how the recorder was the first instrument I learned in school and that I should teach my daughter.

We use Rightstart Math and enjoy it. My daughter does well with their teaching style and ideas. We do supplement with living books and games.

We use A Beka for math. Up until now, I haven’t used a curriculum, though. We’ve just done a lot of hands on activities. Thanks for the opportunity!

  22. August 23, 2010 11:25 pm

Thanks for the give away! My son isn’t three yet, so math right now involves concepts like patterning, learning to read double and triple digit numbers, etc. We haven’t used any curriculum yet. This week, he is learning the most math from playing countless games of monopoly!

  23. August 24, 2010 5:53 am

Haha! My husband just unearthed his recorder from elementary school so how fun would this be?! As for math, we’re only at the preschool level. We’ve done a bit of Lesson Pathways (online curriculum) and some basic workbooks. I just bought RightStart so we may start using that soon.

  35. August 28, 2010 6:51 am

I’d love to add this to our music curriculum! We have a recorder, but no books specifically for it…

Math: I just acquired Math U See for this year; we’ll see how it goes. I was going to do a Number Corner program (Bridges – mathlearningcenter.org) – but it seems like too much prep work for me at the moment…
