Monday Morning Surprise

This is a good way to start the week. Amazon rankings are like a roller-coaster ride, so this won’t last for long — but I’ll enjoy it while I can. 🙂

If you’re curious about my book, here is the introduction and first chapter, free to download:

  1. Wow! Congratulations!

(When my book comes out, I now have a fun goal – to see if I can get mine to #1 in the same category.)

  2. My wager: you’ll hit it in the first week, just like Christopher did with his book, Talking Math with Your Kids. You have a lot of people looking forward to your book, and they will push it up the chart pretty fast when it comes out.

Part of what makes this morning’s rank so exciting to me is that it comes about a year after my book’s publication. And in that time, nonfiction readers have started buying more ebooks in place of paperbacks (though still not with the same eagerness as fiction bookaholics), which means the competition has grown tougher. I used to sit pretty comfortably in the top 10-15 on that list, but even though my rate of sales hasn’t changed much, in the past several months I’ve been bouncing down into the 40’s and beyond.

  3. Well, that’s not exactly true. What bumped it up was a few more sales than I would normally have gotten over the same period of time — but nobody knows *exactly* what Amazon counts to determine sales rank. And I don’t know what (other than random fluctuation) might have driven those extra readers my way.

  4. Congratulations, Denise! I think every parent should read your book. It has opened my eyes to a whole new world. I’ve got a blog post coming out on Tuesday telling everyone (again ;-)) to read it!
